Zur Zeit bin ich dabei zu überlegen, ob ich mir eine 64-Bit Maschine zulege.

Hallo und
Prinzipiell schon, ich würde auf dem Rechner allerdings eine virtuelle Maschine mit XP dafür einrichten. Es läuft dann einfach problemloser.
Wenn du es trotzdem unter Windows Vista oder höher benutzen möchtest, gibt es hier eine Anleitung:

Hallo,
Delphi 7 läuft bei mir in einem 64-Bit-System unter Windows 8.1. ohne Probleme mit einer Ausnahme:
Die Hilfe lief nicht nicht. Dafür musste ich WinHlp32.exe installieren. Das verträgt sich aber unter Windows 8.1 nicht mit dem Update KB3000850, das muss man deinstallieren. (Und im automatische Update "ausblenden", damit es nicht wieder installiert wird.) Zu Hause geht das einwandfrei, im Büro muss ich auf die Hilfe verzichten weil ich ohne das Update mit einem bestimmten Drucker im Netzwerk nicht drucken kann.

In dem Link oben habe ich im zweiten Teil beschrieben wie du die winhlp32.exe einfach von einem anderen Computer kopieren kannst.
Denn für Windows 10 gibt es diese nicht mehr als Update.

Einen schönen guten Abend,
mir stellt sich die Frage, ob das Überschreiben der winhlp32.exe nicht zu anderen Einschränkungen führt? Für eine Auskunft wäre ich dankbar.

Hallo und
Nein, denn die vorhandene Exe ist ab Vista nur ein Dummy, der bei jedem Aufruf der alten .hlp Hilfe eine Webseite öffnet, die sagt, dass diese nicht mehr unterstützt wird.
Deshalb hat das keinerlei negative Auswirkungen.
Da es mittlerweile die aktuelle Starter Edition kostenlos gibt, hat sich das Thema für viele aber ohnehin erledigt.
