Job Description

Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) is responsible for developing world class electrical technologies and products, as well as the associated integrated power generation and propulsion turnkey systems. RRE is rapidly extending the company's capability in the electrical domain and will play an increasingly important role in all our businesses as we move forward toward our Net Zero goal.

We are seeking experienced and enthusiastic domain experts who are willing to join us and lead/contribute to this unique technology and product development journey for electrical power management systems.

Your role will involve working on novel engineering concepts and developing strategies for introducing new technologies and products to augment Rolls-Royce’s existing portfolio. Your contributions to the team and the business will include technical expertise, technical leadership, novel ideas and concepts, execution of actual design, development and testing as appropriate, among others.

Principal Tasks:

• Drive new electrical power management system designs from conception, analysis, detailed design and manufacturing through to operational test and initial deployment.
• Define the control laws of highly integrated hybrid electric system control units.
• Participate through all product development stages from early prototyping to new product introduction, while applying system engineering tools and techniques.
• Support the safety processes performing FMEA analysis.
• Contribute to V&V process as well as to the Change process.
• You work according to an aircraft quality management system and sustainable documentation of the development.
• Co-ordinate strategic collaboration with key research partners in R&D initiatives
• Lead internal and external research programme to ensure business opportunities are pursued and the Group's R&D requirements are satisfied.
• Maintain good customer and stakeholder engagement throughout the project cycle.
• Support the achievement of department objectives aligned with global objectives.

Qualifications/Experience:

• BS/MS/PhD degree in Electrical or related engineering discipline. Candidates with significant experience in electrical power system design and implementation are preferred.
• Experience in system engineering background with experience of the use of requirement management tools (e.g. DOORS, Polarion), SYSML model based system engineering tools (e.g Integrity modeller, Cameo systems modeller).
• Experience in the design of aerospace control system design and certification or experience in electrical power management of marine or micro-grid power delivery systems.
• Experience in the implementation of high-speed digital interfaces such as PCI express, Ethernet, CAN, ARINC, I2C/SPI and RF circuitry ensuring optimum signal integrity.
• Experience in simulating and verifying controls system behaviour.
• Experience of the use of aerospace standards such as DO-178, DO-254 and ARP4754A.
• Experience in working in multi-domain team (Electrical, Mechanical, Control and Thermal) with a sound understanding of interactions with other engineering disciplines.
• Strong background in mathematical modelling of electrical power components and systems for both static and transient conditions (data driven and physics-based model).
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• An ability to achieve targets while working on multiple projects simultaneously
